Once again, the Winter School is behind us and it was a tremendous success.  We had similar numbers as last year attending with the groups kept to a very manageable size of 4 to 6 students of comparable abilities.  The feedback from all students was extremely overwhelming commenting on the excellent structure of the course, how much there were able to learn in  one week, professional instructors, Youth Hostel facilities, excellent meals,  professional organisation and of course, that very unique friendly atmosphere that the school is renowned for. 
Each day at 14:00, one of the instructors performed a full-blown top professional recital to give students the possibility to refuel with that much needed energy to continue with the learning process.  Solo one to one tuition was given to each student during the course.
The student competition took place on Thursday evening with about 85% of the students taking up the challenge.  This was also a great success with students commenting on the experience they got out of actually standing in front of a panel of top class Judges and an audients with experience in this field.
The annual dinner for the instructors was held this year at the British Consul Generals resident in Düsseldorf with high Government Officials attending from the Embassy in Berlin.  It was a very unique event with each instructor getting up from the table and performing a solo set on the pipes or drums to the very proficient audients sitting around the table.  We would like to thank Malcolm for hosting this event and for his wonderful hospitality.  
There were 9 successful candidates, who received their well-earned pass results after taking their perspective examinations.  The official certificates will be sent direct from The National Piping Centre to the students once they are signed and stamped.  A big well done to the successful candidates for this great achievement and advancement in their piping skills!
The end of course party in Brüggen was certainly the best yet with all the instructors and students playing together without stopping for well over an hour – what an atmosphere!!!!
Graduation Ceremony in Schloss Dilborn on Saturday evening was definitely the best yet with Irish Dancers, Crossed Swords Pipe Band, Instructors and the Happy German Pipe Band + the A group of students and Frankie Bannatyne singing some well know Scottish airs all live on stage.  The highlight was when all the students and performers took to the stage for the grand finale playing Scotland the Brave, Highland Cathedral, Amazing Grace and Auld Lang Syne to finish off a perfect show.  Every seat was taken with people standing at the door trying to get a glimpse of the performers on stage.
A big thank you to all the instructors for being so professional and giving their absolute best throughout the course and to all the students who made this school extra special.
